“I couldn’t believe it.”
JC Chanowsky and his wife Angela were in their resort room when something caught their eye — a small, hairy object crawling slowly across the floor.
“I honestly thought it was a spider,” Chanowsky told The Dodo. “We had just gotten out of bed and were like, ‘We paid all this money for this fancy resort in a jungle and got spiders.'”
He leaned in for a closer look.
It wasn’t a spider. It was one of Angela’s false eyelashes — being carried, with great purpose and considerable effort, by a team of local ants.
“I couldn’t believe it,” Chanowsky said.
Nobody knows exactly what the ants found so appealing about the eyelash. But watching their determination, the couple decided the only decent thing to do was let them have it.
“We let them bring it back to their queen as a trophy,” Chanowsky said.
Somewhere beneath a Balinese resort, there is an ant colony in possession of a false eyelash. And honestly, they earned it.
