βIt was heartbreaking how he was all alone and terrified …”
Earlier this month in Long Island, New York, a man heading near his workplace suddenly froze when he heard frantic cries coming from a nearby Bank of America building.
A winter storm had just rolled through, blanketing the area in fresh snow as flakes continued to fall. Following the sound, the man soon discovered its source β a tiny black kitten huddled in the cold, trembling and alone.

He attempted to scoop the kitten up, but the frightened little one kept slipping away. Realizing he needed help, the man reached out to local animal rescuer John Debacker. Despite slick roads and worsening weather, Debacker immediately set off to help.
βThe drive was rough β I was sliding all over the place,β Debacker told The Dodo. βThe snow was coming down hard, but I made it there safely.β
When Debacker arrived, he spotted the kitten tucked into the doorway of the bank, desperately trying to shield himself from the freezing wind and snow. The sight was heartbreaking.

βHe had clearly been terrified and alone out there for a long time,β Debacker said.
With patience, a towel and a net, Debacker was able to safely secure the kitten. Almost instantly, the scared exterior melted away, revealing a sweet and affectionate personality. The rescuer named him Snowflake.
βAs soon as he was safe, he turned into the sweetest little guy,β Debacker said.

Thankfully, Snowflake was found to be healthy despite his frightening ordeal. Debacker brought him to All About Cats Rescue, where staff quickly worked to find him a loving home.
Before long, Snowflake was adopted by a family ready to give him warmth, comfort and care. This holiday season, he wonβt know fear or loneliness β only safety, love and a cozy place to call home.
