Jersey Zoo is celebrating the birth of two adorable baby capybaras.
The zoo announced that its capybara family has grown with the arrival of not one, but two βbabybaras.β
The newborns are the babies of Tayto and Tango, who are now proud parents. Tayto gave birth to the latest arrivals on Wednesday, June 10.
Capybaras are native to South America and are known as the worldβs largest rodents. Because they spend a lot of time in and around water, they are often described as semi-aquatic animals and are sometimes compared to oversized guinea pigs.
Tango may already be familiar to some zoo visitors. Last year, he caused quite a stir after escaping from his enclosure, which led to the zoo closing temporarily. He was later found in woodland within the zoo grounds.
Tango originally came to Jersey Zoo from Drusillas Park in East Sussex as one of three siblings. While there, he also made headlines for demanding cuddles from author Dame Jacqueline Wilson, who had visited to read stories to the animals for World Book Day.
Now, Tango is making news for a much sweeter reason β becoming a dad.
