In Medstead, United Kingdom, a resident had an unusual surprise while opening a recycling bin recently. Atop a pile of glass bottles, there lay a half-filled Nutella jar that caught her attention.
Intrigued, she inspected the jar closely only to discover that it held something unexpected β a clump of brown spikes in motion.
Realizing the predicament, the Good Samaritan rushed to HART Wildlife Rescue (HWR) with the jar. The rescue team found a hedgehog trapped inside.
Uncertain how it got into the glass bottle bin, they deemed her incredibly fortunate to be spotted in time.
The hedgehog, stressed and unable to free itself, presented a unique challenge for the rescue team. Instead of resorting to heavy equipment, they opted for a creative approach.
Using a coffee stirrer, wildlife carer Olivia gently scratched the hedgehog’s back, coaxing her to uncurl from her defensive ball. Once uncurled, the team carefully wiggled her out of the jar without causing further stress or harm.
The little hedgehog, now free, received a warm welcome at HWR. Placed in her own cozy cage, she was ensured warmth, nourishment, and happiness by the dedicated team. The heartwarming tale showcases the power of compassion and innovative thinking in wildlife rescue.
