This time last year, Ali Renteria and her dog, Lincoln, were a perfectly happy pair, enjoying life together. But a lot has changed for them both since then.
It all started with a simple question.
One summer, while scrolling through the dating app Hinge, Renteria came across the profile of Ryan McCarthy. Though they were strangers, something stood out to her right away: they both had dogs they loved deeply.
Intrigued, Renteria commented on one of McCarthy’s photos of him and his dog, Cruz, asking, “Why do I feel like our dogs would be best friends?”
They decided to meet for a first date, and the connection was immediate — not just between the two of them, but with their dogs as well.
From that moment, love blossomed quickly.
“We said I love you just two months into dating and have been inseparable ever since,” Renteria shared. “I can’t believe he was a stranger I met online. He’s my absolute best friend.”
Meanwhile, Lincoln and Cruz grew closer every day. The two had always been loved and adored by their parents, but now they shared even more joy with each other.
Since then, holidays have been spent together as a foursome, the first of many more to come. Six months later, Renteria and McCarthy are still writing their love story, one that began with a simple question.
With their beloved dogs by their sides, the two are already beginning to feel like family.
