Strange Cries Near The Homes

Residents in Garden City Park on Long Island, New York, recently became concerned when they started hearing faint cries coming from somewhere near their homes.

The sound continued, and the neighbors knew something was wrong. They followed the cries until they led them to a woodpile in one resident’s yard.

The logs were covered by an old, torn plastic tarp that hung down toward the ground. Hidden among the dirt, leaves and shredded plastic was a tiny black kitten.

A Kitten Trapped In Plastic

The kitten had become tangled in the damaged tarp and could not free himself. The residents wanted to help, but they were afraid that pulling at the plastic might hurt him even more.

They began calling local rescuers, hoping someone would be able to come quickly. Unfortunately, no one was available at first.

Nearly 24 hours after the kitten was discovered, they finally reached animal rescuer John Debacker, who immediately headed over to help.

A Careful Rescue

When Debacker arrived, he saw that the situation was urgent. The kitten had been trapped for far too long, and flies were beginning to gather near his head, putting him at risk of serious health problems.

Debacker gently used a towel to hold the kitten steady. Then, with a pair of scissors, he carefully began cutting away the plastic wrapped around the little cat’s body.

Bit by bit, he removed the tarp without causing further harm.

Within moments, the kitten was finally free.

Rushed To Safety

After freeing him, Debacker took the kitten straight to the Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center of Westbury so he could receive proper medical care.

Veterinary staff began treating his injuries and monitoring his condition. Thankfully, the kitten is now stable and doing much better.

A Brighter Future Ahead

What started as a frightening situation in a quiet yard became a lifesaving rescue.

Thanks to the neighbors who refused to ignore his cries and the rescuer who came to free him, the tiny black kitten is no longer trapped and alone.

Now, he is safe, receiving care and on his way toward a much better future.
