While trekking a narrow, precarious trail on Lookout Mountain in Phoenix, Arizona, a Good Samaritan was immersed in his hike when a glimmer of light caught his attention. About half a mile up the mountain and slightly off the beaten path, he was astonished to spot a pair of amber eyes reflecting the light.

The eyes belonged to a frightened dog, nestled in a small crevice on the mountainside. Camouflaged against the rocky terrain, she might have gone unnoticed if not for her striking gaze. It was a mystery how she ended up there, but it was evident she had been stranded for some time and was in dire need of assistance.

Swiftly, the Good Samaritan contacted the Arizona Humane Society (AHS), who dispatched two emergency animal medical technicians, Tracey Miiller and Ruthie Jesus, to the scene. Meanwhile, he stayed by the dog’s side, offering comfort and reassurance until help arrived. Despite her fear, the dog showed signs of willingness to accept aid.

“This Good Samaritan waited for nearly two hours, and then we stumbled upon this remarkable dog, who coincidentally matched the color of the earth,” Jesus remarked in a press statement. “She blends into her surroundings so seamlessly that the hiker wanted to name her Bright Eyes. When he passed by her, all he could see were her glowing amber eyes peering back at him.”

Following a swift and cautious evaluation on the mountainside, the technicians discovered that Bright Eyes was severely dehydrated, with injured paws and a wound on her rear end.

“She was incredibly gentle, allowing me to stroke her head, but she was adamant about staying in that den. I had to gently coax her out,” Jesus recounted.

Bright Eyes was too weak to walk alongside her rescuers down the mountain, prompting the technicians to take turns carrying her until they reached the ambulance. Throughout the journey, Bright Eyes remained calm and composed, displaying profound gratitude for her newfound safety.

“She seemed to genuinely relax and even enjoy the ride down the mountain,” Jesus remarked. “Considering the precariousness of the trail, Tracey and I took turns carrying her, and she was just so cooperative. It was as if she understood we were bringing her to safety.”

While the circumstances surrounding Bright Eyes’ presence on the mountain remain a mystery, the crucial part is that she was discovered and is now receiving the care she requires.

“We were overjoyed to have found her,” Jesus expressed. “She was incredibly dehydrated. I suspect she had been up there for several days, and that day might have been her last. This Good Samaritan truly saved her life.”
