She knew exactly what to do ♥️

Last week, a French bulldog named Stormi went into labor. At first, the process seemed normal — but soon the delivery stalled, leaving the dog in distress.

Unable to afford veterinary care, Stormi’s owner contacted Border Tails Rescue for help.

Executive director Harleigh Garcia immediately stepped in and offered assistance with both the delivery and Stormi’s spay surgery.

But during the conversation, the owner revealed something unexpected — they no longer wanted Stormi at all.

An Emergency Surgery

When Stormi arrived at the rescue, she was lying in a laundry basket and clearly suffering.

Garcia rushed her to a veterinary clinic nearby for emergency treatment.

During an urgent C-section, veterinarians discovered that this was already Stormi’s second such surgery, even though she was less than two years old.

Sadly, the puppy didn’t survive.

Stormi woke from surgery ready to care for her baby — but there was none.

A Mom Without Babies

Over the next couple of days, Stormi stayed with the rescue while she recovered.

But staff members noticed she seemed increasingly sad without puppies to nurse.

“She seemed depressed,” Garcia said.

Then an unexpected call came from Chicago Animal Care and Control.

Two newborn puppies had been found as strays and needed immediate care.

A Perfect Match

The rescue team wondered if Stormi might accept the orphaned pups.

They carefully placed the two 2-week-old puppies in front of her.

Stormi’s reaction was immediate.

“She started licking them and cuddling them right away,” Garcia said. “And they began nursing almost instantly.”

The sweet Frenchie still had plenty of milk — and suddenly had babies to care for again.

A Devoted New Mom

The puppies are believed to be pit bull mixes, meaning they’ll eventually grow much larger than their adoptive mom.

Because of that, they still receive bottle feedings to supplement Stormi’s milk.

But that hasn’t changed her dedication.

She keeps them close, cuddles them constantly and even gives protective side-eye when someone gets too close to her new babies.

A Happy Ending In Progress

Stormi and her adopted pups are currently staying with a foster family while the puppies continue to grow.

Despite everything she went through, Stormi has embraced motherhood with incredible devotion.

“She definitely had that motherly instinct,” Garcia said.

And thanks to a little luck — and a lot of compassion — this once-heartbroken dog now has the family she was meant to have. 🐶🍼
