Family Hiking In Snowy Woods Follows Tiny Meows To A Kitten Covered In Ice

They named her Elsa.

Last weekend, just after a powerful snowstorm swept through North Carolina, a man named Scott and his two children decided to go hiking in the woods near their home.

The forest was quiet and remote, far from any houses. When they reached a scenic spot, Scott’s daughter suggested they take a selfie to remember the moment.

That’s when everything changed.

“After taking it, my daughter said, ‘What’s that noise?’” Scott recalled. “We all stopped and heard high-pitched meowing, over and over.”

A Sound Coming From Beneath the Snow

The family followed the sound and noticed a few pieces of discarded metal partially buried in the snow.

Lifting one of them, Scott realized the cries were coming from underneath.

There, barely visible, was a tiny kitten huddled in the freezing cold.

“I got in close and saw her — so tiny, covered head to toe in ice, and my heart just sank,” Scott said. “She was so frozen she blended in with the snow and sleet.”

Frozen, But Still Fighting

Scott carefully freed the kitten, while his son took off his gloves and used his bare hands to warm her.

Despite everything, the little kitten was still crying — a sign she was alive and fighting.

“She knew she was finally safe,” Scott said.

The family rushed home as fast as they could.

Rushed Home to Warmth and Safety

On the way, Scott texted his wife so she could prepare blankets and supplies.

Once inside, they placed the kitten near a heating pad and wrapped her in soft towels.

“It didn’t take long until she was warm and dry,” Scott said.

A visit to the vet confirmed the kitten was only about four weeks old, but miraculously healthy.

A New Name and a New Life

With kitten formula, warmth, and constant cuddles, the tiny survivor quickly regained her strength.

The family named her Elsa, inspired by her dramatic rescue from the ice.

“She’s very healthy,” Scott said.
“We just keep taking turns passing her around, cuddling her, feeding her, and loving on her.”

Was It Meant to Be?

No one knows how Elsa ended up stranded alone in such a remote, frozen area.

Scott believes it wasn’t an accident.

“We’re just so thankful to God for leading us to her and allowing us to help her,” he said.

The family even returned to the same spot later to search for other kittens — but found none.

A Forever Family She Was Never Supposed to Have

Before that snowy hike, Scott’s family hadn’t planned on getting another cat.

But the moment they heard Elsa’s cries, everything changed.

“I just knew there was no way we were going to save this kitty and not keep her,” Scott said.
“She is definitely a permanent part of our family. She is the sweetest, cutest, littlest thing we’ve ever seen.”
