He’d been trapped for quite some time.
While driving along a quiet road in Australia, a motorist noticed something unusual along the roadside. A large shape appeared tangled in a wire fence.
Curious and concerned, the driver pulled over to investigate β and discovered a kangaroo stuck in a frightening situation.
The animal was hanging helplessly from the fencing and clearly unable to escape.
The driver immediately contacted wildlife rescuers for help.
A Difficult Rescue
The call reached Possumwood Wildlife, and cofounder Steve Garlick rushed to the location.
When he arrived, he realized how lucky the kangaroo had been that someone spotted him at all. From most angles on the road, the animal was almost impossible to see.
The kangaroo β later named Lake β was frightened and exhausted. It looked like he had been trapped for quite some time.
Carefully and patiently, Garlick worked to free the kangaroo from the fence and transport him safely to the wildlife rescue center.

Recovering From Serious Injuries
At the rescue facility, Lakeβs condition was evaluated.
He was severely dehydrated and had multiple injuries, including a dislocated hip. The team immediately began treating him and giving him the care he needed to recover.
Once Lake started feeling better, his personality began to show β and he even formed a friendship with another kangaroo named Tristan, who had also previously been rescued from a fence.
The companionship helped Lake relax and adjust during his healing process.
A Remarkable Recovery
At first, rescuers werenβt sure if Lake would fully recover.

But over time, he surprised everyone.
As he grew stronger, he moved from medical care into outdoor enclosures where he could regain his strength. Soon he was hopping around confidently again.
In fact, Lake became so energetic that he occasionally jumped over an internal fence, wandered out to snack on grass, and then hopped back into his enclosure like nothing happened.
Soon Returning to the Wild

Lakeβs recovery has exceeded all expectations, and the rescue team couldnβt be happier with his progress.
With his strength restored, he will soon be released back into the wild, where he belongs.
For the rescuers who worked so hard to save him β and the driver who first noticed him β seeing the big kangaroo recover has been incredibly rewarding.
And as the team at Possumwood Wildlife says, they couldnβt be prouder of this determined survivor. π¦
