For most people, Halloween decorations get boxed up on November 1. But in Pip’s home, spooky season is now a full-time lifestyle — and it’s all thanks to his gray kitten, Gravy, who decided that a giant plastic skeleton was her new best friend.

It all began in 2021, when Pip adopted energetic little Gravy as a companion for his older cat, Nym. At first, Nym wasn’t entirely convinced that she needed a kitten in her life, but Gravy’s determined sweetness and playful spirit eventually won her over. Before long, the two were inseparable — though Gravy’s huge personality quickly made her the star of the household.

Pip learned early on that Gravy operates in three very distinct “modes,” as he jokingly described in a TikTok: screaming time, goblin time and loving time.

During “screaming time,” Gravy made her needs known with surprising volume for such a tiny cat. If she wanted to play with her laser pointer, cuddle, or simply demand attention, she would meow until Pip responded. And he always did — Gravy had him trained well.

“Goblin time,” on the other hand, was pure chaos. Gravy would sprint through the house at full speed, dragging toys around, knocking things over and sometimes getting herself into unbelievably silly situations. Toilet paper rolls? Destroyed. The toilet bowl? Occasionally explored. By the end of her zoomies sessions, she’d be panting from the effort.

But the third mode, “loving time,” was Gravy at her sweetest — curling up with Pip or Nym and soaking in all the affection she could get. This year, though, loving time took an unexpected turn.

That twist happened when Pip brought home a 3-foot plastic skeleton as a Halloween decoration. He assumed Gravy would be terrified. Instead, the kitten approached it with curiosity, sniffed its bony fingers — and then gently leaned her head into its hand, just like she did when asking Pip for pets.

Pip couldn’t believe it.

“I thought you were gonna be afraid,” he said in a TikTok. “You’re not afraid? Is this a friend? Another hand you can get pets from?”

From that moment on, Gravy and the skeleton were practically inseparable. Pip could move the skeleton anywhere — the hallway, the living room, the bedroom — and Gravy would follow, rubbing against its legs and nudging its hand just so she could feel “pets.” The kitten who once panicked at the sound of a flushing toilet or the sight of a water fountain had absolutely zero fear of a life-size skeleton.

Pip eventually placed the skeleton next to Gravy’s favorite window. There, the unlikely duo spent their afternoons people-watching, the kitten happily pressed against her spooky new friend. To make the setup more stable, Pip secured the skeleton on a stand so it wouldn’t topple each time Gravy demanded affection from it.

He could hardly contain his amusement: “I’m losing my entire mind about this,” he said more than once.

Now, weeks later, Gravy’s friendship with the skeleton is still going strong. What began as a Halloween decoration has officially become a permanent member of the household. Pip never expected to live with a 3-foot skeleton year-round — but watching Gravy love it so wholeheartedly makes it completely worth it.

“I will never in my entire life be over this,” he said. And honestly? It’s hard to blame him.
