Chico was found as a stray in 2019, but it didn’t take him long to embrace the comforts of indoor life.
“A friend of mine found him crying at his apartment door and called me for help,” Tori Roman, Chico’s mom, told The Dodo. “I took him in since I had just moved into my own apartment. He’s a street cat turned spoiled indoor cat.”
Chico quickly became accustomed to being pampered, and his favorite indulgence? A velvet clothes hanger.
It all started one day when his parents were doing laundry. Chico stumbled upon their single velvet hanger and became completely obsessed with it. From then on, every time laundry was done, his parents would give him the hanger to play with. Eventually, Chico began rummaging through their closet to find it himself.
“Our closet door is always open, and we typically have to pull him away from sorting through the hangers … or give in and take off the article of clothing on the velvet hanger so Chico can play with it,” Roman explained. “It’s his world!”
But one day, disaster struck. Chico’s pittie brother, Murphy, got curious about the appeal of the velvet hanger and accidentally destroyed it. Chico was devastated. He sat on the closet floor, staring up at the remaining hangers, searching for his favorite one.
When Chico’s aunt asked what he wanted for Christmas, Roman sent her a video of Chico under the hangers, explaining his singular request.
This year, Christmas came early — Chico was reunited with his beloved velvet hanger.
“Merry Christmas to Chico,” Roman shared in a TikTok video documenting the joyous occasion.
Although Murphy has destroyed the velvet hanger a few times, it’s always promptly replaced. Roman’s husband may dislike the velvet hangers, but they continue buying them for Chico. After all, what’s a spoiled indoor cat without his favorite treasure?
