Once dubbed “Britain’s Loneliest Sheep” and later crowned the “World’s Most Famous Sheep,” Fiona has reached another milestone: she is now expecting twins, two years after her dramatic rescue captured global attention.

Back in 2023, GNN reported on a group of Scottish farmers preparing an ambitious rescue mission to save a sheep spotted marooned on a remote beach beneath towering cliffs along the Cromarty Firth. The animal had first been noticed two years earlier by kayaker Jill Turner, who photographed the sheep from the water. By then, Fiona’s fleece had grown to extraordinary proportions.

How she managed to reach such an inaccessible stretch of shoreline remains a mystery. What is known is that the farmers eventually raised funds for a risky cliffside operation, documenting the effort on their video blog, The Sheep Game.

Today, Fiona is thriving at Dalscone Farm. When she arrived, she was significantly overweight after years of grazing on salty coastal grass with no room to roam. After a challenging adjustment period, the farm recently introduced her to a Suffolk ram, and she is now officially “with lamb.”

“She’s sort of forgotten what it means to be a sheep,” said Ben Best, Dalscone Farm’s manager.

With a carefully managed diet and some hormonal support, Fiona gradually regained her health and reproductive rhythm. Given the immense public interest she has attracted over the years, Best believes news of her pregnancy may elevate her fame even further.

Stories about sheep have a habit of capturing public imagination, particularly across the Commonwealth. When the famously overgrown Australian Merino sheep known as “Shrek” was found after six years roaming free, it dominated headlines across English-speaking media.

And judging by the joyful way Dalscone Farm shared Fiona’s announcement, it’s clear they know just how special this moment is.
