A woman who has spent the past 15 years caring for betta fish recently shared a touching story about one of her newest companions, Stevie. When she first saw him in a pet store, he looked pale, lifeless, and unhealthy, sitting alone in a small cup of water.

After bringing him home and giving him proper care, she watched an amazing transformation unfold. Over time, Stevie changed from a washed-out white to a brilliant electric blue.

Adriana, who ran the Instagram account @thebettaboys, spent years posting about the daily lives and care of several betta fish. Before stepping away from the platform, she shared one last video that quickly caught people’s attention β€” Stevie’s journey from neglected pet store fish to thriving showstopper.

In the video, Adriana explained that Stevie’s faded color and damaged fins made it clear he had not been living in good conditions. She described the small container he was kept in as little more than a cup.

She also reflected on the common idea that fish are easy pets for children. Adriana said she got her first betta when she was 11 and still feels some guilt because, looking back, that fish did not truly thrive under her care.

When she first brought Stevie home, she noticed his unusual appearance, including dark lips and black markings around his eyes, which gave him what she called a slightly goth look. He had been living without proper heat or filtration, but once placed in a healthy tank with plants, decorations, and nutritious food, he slowly began to recover.

At first, Stevie developed small orange patches. Soon after, those gave way to bright blue coloring that gradually spread across his body. His delicate, flowing fins also grew dramatically, becoming much longer and fuller than before.

Adriana joked that even after turning blue, Stevie still kept his trademark little moustache.

Betta fish, originally from Southeast Asia, are known for their vivid colors and elegant fins, making them popular aquarium pets. Adriana said one of the things she loved most about them was how intelligent they seemed, especially when she changed the layout of their tanks and watched them explore with curiosity.

Over the years, the fish featured on her page came in many colors, including black, red, blue, orange, and white, with each one having its own unique look and personality. Stevie’s transformation, though, stood out as one of the most unforgettable.
