What began as an ordinary day by the sea quickly turned into an extraordinary wildlife rescue when Abdul Hamid Al-Ansari and two companions discovered a loggerhead sea turtle trapped between jagged coastal rocks.
Al-Ansari, a paramedic and outdoor enthusiast based in Oman, shared the dramatic rescue on Instagram after it took place on July 3.
The powerful video shows the enormous turtle wedged tightly between the rocks as waves repeatedly crashed over its body.
Racing Against the Rising Tide
As the tide continued to rise, the situation became increasingly dangerous.
Each incoming wave washed over the turtle’s head, putting the exhausted animal at serious risk of drowning if it couldn’t free itself.
Realizing there was little time to lose, the three men worked together to lift the heavy turtle from the narrow rocky gap.
A Challenging Rescue
Freeing the turtle proved far from easy.

Why Loggerhead Turtles Need Protection
Loggerhead sea turtles are among the world’s most remarkable marine reptiles.
They are the largest hard-shelled sea turtles, with adults typically weighing between 250 and 400 pounds, making the rescue an impressive physical challenge.
Only two major nesting populations are known to have more than 10,000 nesting females each year:
- Peninsular Florida.
- The southeastern coast of Oman.
These important nesting areas play a vital role in the survival of the species.

Wildlife experts generally advise people to avoid handling sea turtles or other wild animals unless absolutely necessary.
Because nearly all sea turtle species are endangered, trained wildlife professionals are usually the best people to respond when an animal is in distress.
