“It felt like the slowest sprint of my life!”

An Ordinary Ride Home

Diego was riding his motorcycle home from work last Tuesday when he noticed traffic slowing strangely in the left lane of a busy highway.

At first, he thought there had been a minor delay or some debris in the road. As he carefully moved past the stopped cars, he spotted something small near the middle of the lane.

From a distance, it looked like a bag or a piece of trash.

Then it moved.

A Tiny Kitten In The Road

Within seconds, Diego realized the object in the highway was actually a little kitten lying helplessly in the middle of traffic.

There was no time to overthink it. The kitten was surrounded by cars and could easily have been hit.

Diego immediately pulled into the emergency lane, parked his motorcycle and ran back toward the frightened animal.

Running Into Traffic To Help

The sprint felt painfully slow, even though Diego was moving as fast as he could. All he could focus on was reaching the kitten before anything happened.

Thankfully, another driver had stopped and was helping block the lane, giving Diego enough space to safely grab the tiny cat.

He scooped the kitten into his arms and hurried back to his motorcycle on the shoulder of the road.

Lucky To Be Alive

Once the kitten was safe, Diego checked him over and was relieved to see no obvious injuries.

He believed the kitten may have been hiding inside someone’s engine area and fallen out onto the road, rather than being thrown from a car.

Either way, the little one had survived something terrifying.

A Motorcycle Ride To Safety

Diego first considered placing the kitten in his work bag for the ride home, but decided to tuck him inside his jacket instead.

With only a few miles left, Diego rode carefully, keeping one hand on the handlebars and the other gently resting against the kitten.

To his surprise, the kitten stayed calm. He curled into Diego’s side, seeming to take comfort in the warmth and closeness.

Meeting Lucky

When they arrived home, Diego placed the kitten in a quiet guest bedroom so he could decompress.

The kitten, now named Lucky, was scared at first. He ran into the closet and hid, hissing whenever Diego came to check on him.

But Diego was patient. He visited him every hour, spoke gently and tried to show him he was safe.

Learning To Trust

After a few hours, Lucky began to relax. The hissing stopped, and he finally allowed Diego to hold him.

It was a huge moment for Diego, who had gone from finding a terrified kitten in the middle of a highway to earning his trust in the same day.

But someone else in the house formed an even faster bond with Lucky.

A New Best Friend

Diego’s young daughter, Allison, has always loved animals. As soon as she learned there was a kitten in the house, she wanted to meet him, pet him and be near him.

Lucky and Allison connected almost immediately.

Before long, Allison was asking for the kitten first thing in the morning. That was when Diego realized how attached she had become.

Home For Good

At first, Diego had not planned on keeping Lucky. His main goal was simply to get him off the highway and make sure he was safe.

But after seeing how naturally Lucky fit into the family, especially with Allison, the decision became clear.

Lucky was already home.

A Rescue Meant To Be

Lucky is now officially part of Diego’s family, and they cannot imagine life without him.

Many people have praised Diego for stopping to save the tiny kitten from the highway, but for him, it was simply something he had to do.

He has always cared deeply for animals in need — and when Lucky needed someone most, Diego was there.
