β€œHis love of stuffies was pretty much instant!”

For nearly 200 days, a sweet dog named George has been waiting for a home of his own. While he continues to be overlooked by potential adopters, he has found one special way to comfort himself.

George holds on to his stuffed toys.

George first arrived at Chicago Animal Care and Control as a stray last November. He had a microchip, so shelter staff believed he likely belonged to someone. But sadly, no family ever came forward to claim him.

Eventually, George was taken in by One Tail at a Time, a local dog rescue in Chicago. His rescuers quickly noticed something about him: whenever he had a plush toy nearby, he seemed calmer and more secure.

His love for stuffed animals appeared almost immediately.

When George moved into his first foster home, the rescue made sure to send him with plenty of stuffies to choose from. The toys became more than just playthings β€” they became a source of emotional support.

George is a loving, intelligent and well-mannered dog. His rescuers describe him as sweet with people, easy to live with and adorable. He enjoys cuddling, playing and relaxing near the people he trusts.

However, George does struggle around other dogs. During walks, he can become nervous when he sees other pups nearby. But his foster family discovered that carrying a stuffed toy helps him stay focused and calm. With a stuffie in his mouth, George can ignore distractions and keep walking peacefully.

His toys help him at home, too. When he gets tired, he curls up near them and drifts off to sleep feeling safe.

George has not yet met children while in the rescue’s care, but his team believes he may do well with them. He has not met cats either, and rescuers suspect cats may not be the best fit for him. What George really needs is a home where he can be the only dog and receive all the love he has been waiting for.

His rescuers remain hopeful that the right family is out there. Until then, they will keep sharing his story, along with plenty of photos and videos of George and his beloved stuffed toys.

After months of waiting, George is ready for someone to see what his rescuers already know: he is a gentle, loyal dog who deserves a family to love him forever.
