Unexpected Rescue: Emily Becomes a Chicken Mom After Finding Lilith on the Highway
Emily Dahl was just driving down the highway when she saw something she never expected: a chicken.
“I literally just got a chicken off the highway,” Dahl said in a video shared on TikTok. “I don’t know how I’m gonna get her home.”
After rescuing the chicken, later named Lilith, Dahl carefully placed her in a basket in the front seat of her car. Upon checking her over, Dahl noticed that Lilith’s feet were tied together, likely a result of escaping from a transport truck. This explained how Lilith ended up alone on the highway.
Dahl took Lilith home, untied her, and allowed her to rest. As the sweet chicken nestled into Dahl’s arms and fell asleep, it became clear that Lilith already trusted her rescuer. Dahl then let Lilith roam around her backyard, but her heart broke when she realized that Lilith had likely never walked on grass before.
While Dahl wasn’t sure about committing to life as a chicken mom, her bond with Lilith grew stronger by the day. After about 24 hours, Dahl knew she couldn’t let Lilith be alone, so she decided to rescue a few more chickens to keep her company.
“I am planning on rescuing some local chickens in my area so she has friends,” Dahl shared on TikTok. Soon, Dahl found two young chickens who needed a home. On their first meeting, Lilith lay down next to them through the fence, seemingly welcoming them to her new family.
Unfortunately, Lilith has had some health issues, likely from mistreatment in her past life. Dahl has taken her to the vet and is closely monitoring her health, ensuring she gets everything she needs to thrive.
What started as an unexpected encounter on the highway has turned into a heartwarming rescue story. Emily Dahl left that day just another person, but came back a proud chicken mom — and she wouldn’t have it any other way.
