“She has such a zest for life …”
Juneau, the Gas Station Greeter, Finds a New Beginning After Rescue
Juneau, a sweet and spirited dog, became a local sensation at a gas station where she greeted every traveler with enthusiasm, earning pets and snacks from passersby. But behind her friendly exterior, Juneau was hiding a painful secretβshe was limping badly and unable to properly use one of her legs. Despite the pain, she continued to work the crowd, showing no signs of slowing down.
Rescuers from Manitoba Underdogs Rescue heard about Juneauβs situation and quickly learned that her owner, facing health challenges, could no longer care for her properly. Juneau had been struggling with a leg injury that had not healed correctly, and it was clear she needed help.

βWe found her owner, who made the tough decision to surrender her to [our] rescue,β Manitoba Underdogs Rescue wrote on Instagram. βWhen we arrived for a community outreach trip, Juneau was waiting for us like she had already packed her bags.β
After being rescued, Juneau was assessed by the rescue team, and while she was a bit underweight, her overall health was goodβexcept for the leg. A certified surgeon reviewed her case and determined that surgery to amputate the leg was necessary due to the fracture that had healed out of place.

Despite the challenges, Juneau is thriving in her foster care. Her playful and loving nature has flourished, making it difficult to keep her quiet as she recovers. “She is the absolute sweetest girl with so much zest for life,” said Jessica Hansen, executive director of Manitoba Underdogs Rescue. βShe gets along with everyoneβdogs, cats, and kidsβand is just a happy, loving girl.β

Although Juneau has stepped down from her role as the gas station greeter, she is excited for her next chapter: becoming a full-time family member to a lucky family. Her sweet disposition and loving nature make her the perfect addition to any home, and sheβs ready to begin her new life filled with love and care.
