Amelia and her seven siblings were just 7 weeks old when they were rescued from a shelter in Kentucky by Safe Hands Rescue. Though Amelia was adopted early on, her journey wasn’t over. A few months later, her adoptive family had to return her due to serious health issues. Back at the rescue, the staff were determined to find her the perfect forever home.
“They returned her to her original foster home, who immediately brought her to a birthday party at a brewery,” Heather Rende, a volunteer with Safe Hands Rescue, told The Dodo. “She was a hit at that event — everyone commented on her cuteness and friendliness. The brewery is where she met her new family. They couldn’t take their eyes off her.”
While the adoption process was underway, Amelia joined one of the rescue’s puppy yoga classes—sessions where participants practice yoga surrounded by playful rescue puppies. Amelia, however, had her own interpretation of the event, and her energy was far from calm.
“Amelia loves to say hi to everyone—she doesn’t want anyone to feel left out!” Rende said. “She is a very busy girl and was on the move from the beginning of the first class, checking on everyone and everything.”
While other puppies snuggled beside yoga participants, Amelia zipped across the room with nonstop zoomies, occasionally leaping over people in pure, joyful excitement. Her antics had everyone in stitches.
“She was a hit, but she wasn’t stopping to cuddle much — she left that to the other puppies,” Rende said. “She had a job to do, and she was the hostess with the mostest! They loved watching her, and she brought so many smiles and laughs.”
Amelia did two yoga classes back-to-back, pausing only briefly to rest during the second session. She fully embraced her unofficial title as “bringer of joy,” a role she’s now continuing in her forever home — the very one she found at that birthday party.
From shelter pup to star of the yoga studio, Amelia’s journey proves that sometimes, the path to home is full of leaps, laughter, and a little bit of chaos — all in the best way.
