How did he get there?!
Kayla Clark was driving down a quiet Texas back road when something small and white caught her eye along the shoulder. Unsure of what she’d seen, she slowed down and pulled over — never imagining she was about to find a ferret.
There, near the roadside, was a tiny ferret all by himself. Without thinking twice, Clark gently picked him up, wrapped him in a blanket and settled him into her car. She later named him Noodle, and it was clear he felt immediate relief, as if he understood he’d just been saved.
“I just put a ferret in my car,” Clark said in a video shared with The Dodo. “He’s adorable!”
Clark had no clue where Noodle had come from, but it seemed likely he’d been abandoned. Saving a ferret certainly wasn’t part of her plan that day, yet she instantly knew helping him was the only option.
She drove straight to the vet, unsure how long Noodle had been waiting for someone to notice him. Thankfully, the exam revealed he was healthy and unharmed. What he truly needed was care and affection — something Clark was more than willing to give.
To be thorough, Clark contacted nearby shelters and posted in local lost-pet groups, hoping to find an owner. No one came forward. As time passed, Noodle grew more attached to his new family, and before long, Clark couldn’t imagine her home without him.
These days, Noodle spends his time playing hockey with his human brother, cuddling with his dog siblings and tagging along on family adventures. With his playful energy and loving nature, he’s often described as a dog trapped in a ferret’s body.
Nine months after that unexpected roadside rescue, Clark and her family are grateful every single day that they stopped the car — and gained a lifelong companion.
