Meet Andy — the playful Weimaraner who just wanted to help.
Andy, named after the beloved “Office” character Andy Bernard, is a high-energy pup who spends most of his time exploring every inch of his backyard. Recently, his boundless curiosity led him straight into a very unusual situation.
One afternoon, Andy’s mom noticed him pacing the yard with a strangely guilty look, as though he was hiding something. When she got closer, her heart skipped — a pair of tiny legs dangled from his mouth. Andy was carrying a baby rabbit.
Panicked but calm, she asked Andy to “drop it,” even offering him a treat in exchange. But Andy wasn’t letting go. To her surprise, though, he wasn’t clamping down in aggression — he was holding the bunny gently, as if determined to keep him safe.
While his intentions seemed sweet, his mom knew the situation was serious. Wild rabbits are fragile, and bacteria from a dog’s mouth can be harmful. She needed to act quickly.
But Andy seemed to already have a plan. Trotting purposefully across the yard, he led his mom to a small burrow tucked in the grass — the nest where the baby belonged. Finally, he set the rabbit down.
Wrapped in a soft towel, the tiny bunny was checked carefully. To everyone’s relief, he was completely unharmed. “OK, let’s bring you back,” Andy’s mom said softly, returning the little one to his nest.
The baby nestled back in with his siblings, safe and sound. Later that day, Andy’s mom put a barrier around the burrow to make sure the rabbit family would stay protected.
Thanks to Andy’s gentle heart — and his mom’s quick thinking — a wild family got to carry on with their lives in peace. And Andy? He proved that even the most mischievous pups can be heroes in their own way. 🐾🐇
