“I had no expectations to see that baby.β
When We Say Neigh Equine Rescue saved a pregnant horse from being euthanized, they were eager to welcome her baby. However, they didnβt expect to meet the foal, later named Addie, quite so soon.
“I saw a baby in the field,” Cricket, the founder of the rescue, shared in a video for The Dodo. “She wasnβt due for almost a month, so I had no expectations to see that baby.”
Addie had been born prematurely, and unfortunately, her mother rejected her. The rescue team knew that Addie had to eat soon or she wouldnβt survive.
Taking things one day at a time, Cricket brought Addie home and began feeding her bottles every 30 minutes to help her grow stronger. Initially, Addie wasnβt very mobile, but within a few days, she began to show signs of life.
“Three to four days in, we saw a definite change where she would get up on her own,β Cricket said. βAnd then she would start to run, and we were like, βWhere did this come from?β The vet was shocked that she made it.”
As Addieβs strength and energy increased, she outgrew her temporary home. Cricket even moved the kitchen island to give Addie more space, but that didnβt stop the curious foal from getting into trouble. “Every noise I hear, I jump up to see what sheβs destroying,β Cricket joked.
Soon, Cricket began driving Addie to the rescue every day, where she could run freely and expend her energy. While Addie wasnβt particularly interested in playing with the other horses, she bonded instead with the familyβs rescue dogs.
“I donβt think she knows sheβs a horse yet,” Cricket laughed.
Months later, Addie had fully recovered and moved to the rescue farm, where she continued to grow stronger and braver every day. From her fragile start to her vibrant new life, Addieβs journey is a heartwarming reminder of resilience and love.
