“I started to really doubt my sanity …”

It seemed like a typical day for Reddit user Katybugfoster โ€” until things took a strange turn.

Katybugfoster is the proud owner of a black Labrador named Angus, who has been a regular at a local doggy daycare for the past three years. Their daily routine of drop-off and pick-up had become second nature.

โ€œWeโ€™ve had nothing but positive experiences there,โ€ she told The Dodo.

But on a recent visit to retrieve Angus, something felt… off.

As usual, the cheerful black Lab was brought out to greet her and happily jumped into the car. The drive home went smoothly, just like any other day. It wasnโ€™t until they got home that Katybugfoster began to sense something strange.

โ€œHe started sniffing everyone in the house,โ€ she recalled. โ€œNormally, Angus runs straight to the door without hesitation. I assumed maybe heโ€™d had a particularly exciting day and was just extra wound up, but the odd behavior didnโ€™t stop there.โ€

The dog acted like heโ€™d never been in the house before.

She snapped a photo of the confused expression on his face. Over the next ten minutes, his behavior continued to feel off.

โ€œAt first, I worried that something had happened to him at daycare โ€” maybe he got hurt and thatโ€™s why he was acting differently,โ€ she said. โ€œBut as time passed, I began to seriously question what was going on โ€” even questioning whether this was actually my dog.โ€

Trusting her instincts, she decided to check the dogโ€™s teeth. Angus has a distinct chipped tooth โ€” a surefire way to confirm his identity.

This dog didnโ€™t have it.

Thatโ€™s when it hit her: this wasnโ€™t Angus.

Katybugfoster quickly packed up the mystery dog and headed back to the daycare to clear things up.

โ€œThey were incredibly apologetic โ€” it was an honest mistake,โ€ she said. โ€œBilly, the dog Iโ€™d accidentally taken home, looked a lot like Angus. Even the daycare staff had put Angusโ€™s collar on him.โ€

Billyโ€™s actual owner was already at the facility when she arrived, and the mix-up ended in laughter and relief.

Thanks to Katybugfosterโ€™s sharp observation, everything was quickly resolved. Angus, meanwhile, didnโ€™t seem too impressed with the delay in being picked up.

โ€œHe looked a little annoyed with me โ€” even though I wasnโ€™t really late,โ€ she joked. โ€œBut once I had him back, I couldnโ€™t believe I ever mistook another dog for him.โ€
