Kitten Rescued from Car Engine During Lunch Break Finds Forever Home
Heather Silvis was enjoying her lunch break in her car when she suddenly heard faint cries. At first, she thought it was just part of the music playing on the radio.
“I initially thought the meows were part of a remix of a song,” Silvis told The Dodo. “In my head, I was thinking, ‘This is a weird remix, but I can deal with it.’ Which is absolutely absurd now that I think about it.”
But the tiny cries weren’t coming from her speakers—they were real. After checking the parking lot and under her car, Silvis realized the sounds were coming from inside her vehicle.
Kitten Stuck in Car Engine
With the help of her boss, Silvis popped the hood and discovered a frightened kitten hiding in her engine.
“He was basically doing parkour all over my engine,” Silvis said. “He got scared and jumped to the ground, but then jumped back up in it and was running around.”
The little kitten was terrified and didn’t want to be rescued at first. But once Silvis managed to get him to safety, he began to calm down.
From Rescue to Forever Home
Silvis called her husband—who is allergic to cats—to let him know about the unexpected new addition. She quickly set up a safe space for the kitten at home, separate from her other pets, before heading back to work.
No one knew how the kitten ended up inside the car engine, but one thing was clear: he had found the right person at the right time.
Silvis named him Tater Tot, and he’s now an official member of the family.
Life Today: Thriving and Playful
Tater Tot has blossomed into a healthy, energetic kitten.
“He spends his days terrorizing our 10-year-old grumpy cat, bullying our 115-pound Akita, and using jeans as a scratching post,” Silvis said.
What started as a confusing lunch break turned into a life-saving rescue. Thanks to Silvis’ quick actions, Tater Tot now has a loving forever home—and plenty of mischief to get into.
