For most hens, laying an egg is routine. But for one special chicken named Black Beauty, it was nothing short of a miracle.
When Black Beauty first arrived at Love Life Animal Rescue and Sanctuary, she was in terrible condition, covered in injuries and struggling to recover. Her rescuer, Stephanie, was told by veterinarians that the little hen would likely never lay an egg.
Yet, weeks into her rehabilitation, something extraordinary happened.
One morning, Stephanie discovered a perfect brown egg in Black Beauty’s coop. Overwhelmed with emotion, she captured the moment on video.
“Did you lay me an egg?” she exclaimed through tears of joy. “Did you lay me an egg?”
For Stephanie, the egg wasn’t just an egg—it was a symbol of resilience, healing, and the power of animal rescue.
“Chickens won’t lay eggs if they are sick or stressed out,” she explained in a video for The Dodo. “That was a telltale sign that we finally turned a corner.”
A Bond Like No Other
Since her rescue, Black Beauty has formed an unbreakable bond with Stephanie. From the very first day, she seemed to understand she was safe.
“She’s always been attached,” Stephanie said.
Now, every morning, as soon as Stephanie steps outside, Black Beauty races to greet her.
“The first thing I do is look for Black Beauty,” Stephanie shared. “And she’s already beelining it to me.”
For Stephanie, the friendship she’s formed with Black Beauty is something she never expected—but will always cherish.
“I never thought I’d be best friends with a chicken,” she said.
And yet, against all odds, Black Beauty continues to prove that love, care, and a second chance can work wonders—even for the smallest creatures.
