There they were, all lined up,” Luciana Castello Branco recalled from her home in Brasilia, Brazil, where she was abruptly awakened around 3:30 a.m. Her little dog, Pinga, had started behaving unusually, prompting Branco to step out onto her balcony to investigate.

As she peered down, Branco was greeted by a charming sight: a procession of capybaras, the largest rodents in the world and native to the region, marching in a neat single file along the street below. “There they were, all lined up,” Branco exclaimed. “I quickly grabbed my cell phone and began recording.”

Living between a lake, their primary habitat, and a nearby field where they often graze, Branco had encountered capybaras on her street before. Despite the early hour disrupting her sleep, she couldn’t help but appreciate the peaceful and endearing scene unfolding before her.

“It’s always a delight to see them out and about,” Branco confessed. “Being an animal lover, I find joy in observing them, especially as they bask in the late afternoon sun near the lake.”

Reflecting on the moment, Branco cherished the connection with nature that living in such proximity to wildlife provided. The occasional encounters with these gentle creatures added a unique charm to her everyday life in the bustling city of Brasilia.
