“The shelter staff thought they might have been too late.”

“He was unresponsive, and the staff feared they might have been too late,” said Luis Sanchez, APA!’s director of public relations. But the team treated Snoots with the same care and devotion they give every animal—feeding him, providing expert veterinary care, administering medications, and, most importantly, showering him with love. After a quiet night in a kennel, something remarkable happened.

The next morning, Snoots was awake and alert. “He greeted the vets at his kennel door like a real dog again,” Sanchez recalled.

At 12 years old and weighing just five pounds, Snoots had been on death’s doorstep. Yet, surrounded by care and compassion, he found a reason to keep going.

While the shelter doesn’t know exactly how much time Snoots has left, his remaining days are filled with comfort, attention, and affection. “Despite everything, he’s a total sweetie pie who just wants to be held,” Sanchez said. “He doesn’t need much, but APA! is ready to give him the world for as long as he’s with us.”

Now living in a loving hospice foster home, Snoots spends his time snuggling with his humans and enjoying the quiet joys of a life filled with care. The senior pup may have nearly given up, but a little love reminded him there’s still a spark left to cherish.
