“They’re like little twinsies. Their mannerisms are the same.”

Two Bonded Puppies Saved from Euthanasia Now Seeking a Forever Home

Last week, Madeline, a volunteer at a Houston-based dog shelter, came across two nearly identical, skinny puppies she couldn’t look away from. The brothers moved completely in sync, pressing their paws against the kennel bars, desperate for attention.

“These two are peas in a pod,” Madeline said. “They did everything together.”

Then, she made a heartbreaking discovery—the pups were on the euthanasia list and had only a few hours left. Determined to save them, she reached out for help.

A Second Chance at Life

Thankfully, a dedicated dog foster named Summer saw their story and immediately stepped in. She contacted Sunnyside Street Dogs, a local rescue, to see if they could take in the bonded pair. Although the rescue’s intake was closed, they couldn’t turn them away.

“They’re just adorable,” said Annie Hawthorne, president of Sunnyside Street Dogs. “They’re like little twinsies—their mannerisms are the same.”

The puppies, later named Bennie and Jett, were so emaciated that the shelter initially thought they were only 10 weeks old, but they are actually closer to six or seven months. Now, after just a week in foster care, they are gaining weight, playing, and thriving.

Ready for a Forever Home

Despite their similarities, Summer has noticed their unique personalities.

“Jett is a laid-back cuddlebug, while Bennie is outgoing and full of energy,” she said. “They really balance each other out.”

Once they are fully vetted and neutered, Bennie and Jett will be available for adoption. The hope is to find a loving home that will keep them together forever.

“They’ve been through so much,” Summer said. “I just want them to be treated like family, never given up on, and loved unconditionally.”

Now, after escaping the unthinkable, all these two brothers need is a place to call home.
