“Doby, a 1-and-a-half-year-old Jack Russell terrier and whippet-mix, is absolutely loving being Marcia and Brad’s one-and-only” ❤️. At such a young age, he has much to be grateful for. As a shelter puppy diagnosed with failure to thrive, Doby’s early days were fraught with uncertainty. Fortunately, a compassionate foster mom in Texas swooped in just in time, pledging to secure him a forever family.
Despite the passage of time, finding Doby a permanent home proved to be more challenging than anticipated. Thankfully, B.A.A.R.K. Dog Rescue intervened, and an experienced foster mom in Illinois, Jenny Leech, graciously agreed to nurture Doby as his quest for a forever home continued.
Although excited to meet his second foster family, Doby still felt a void. He yearned for the tranquility of a home to call his own, with a devoted pair of humans all to himself.
Leech wasted no time in searching for Doby’s forever home. As much as she adored his personality, she knew the playful pup would thrive with undivided attention—the kind that only an only child could receive.
“This happy guy is equal parts fun and sweet, with a lot of snuggling mixed in,” Leech wrote on Facebook. “He prefers to sleep cuddled up next to someone.”
As the weeks passed under Leech’s attentive care, Doby’s personality flourished. Not only did he forge instant friendships with the other dogs in the household, but he also had a natural affinity for children. Whenever Leech’s grandchildren paid a visit, Doby eagerly initiated playtime with them, always first in line.
Little did Leech know, while diligently seeking Doby’s forever family, one of her social media followers had already fallen head over heels for him. Unbeknownst to her, this person was secretly awaiting a sign from a long-lost loved one to adopt Doby.
After nearly three years of grieving the loss of their beloved pup, Opie, Marcia and Brad cautiously contemplated the idea of welcoming another furry companion into their lives. Fully aware that no dog could ever replace Opie, they felt a longing to share their affectionate home with another deserving pup. During their search for adoptable dogs one day, Marcia stumbled upon Leech’s post featuring Doby, and instantly, her heart melted.
“When they both saw Doby’s pic, they knew he was the one,” Leech shared.
On the day of Doby’s first home visit, Marcia and Brad received a heartfelt message from their beloved late pup.
“His new mom even said that Opie sent them a sign on the day I was bringing Doby for a home visit,” Leech said. “As they were sitting on the patio, a monarch butterfly landed on their memorial stone in honor of Opie.”
Taking it as a sign from above, Marcia and Brad embraced the moment, feeling that Doby was meant to be a part of their family. Overwhelmed with joy, Doby couldn’t contain his excitement when they finally agreed to adopt him. He eagerly nestled into his new parents’ arms, realizing that his lifelong wish of having a family had finally come true.
It’s been a couple of weeks since Doby, now named Floyd, found his forever home, and the affectionate boy is thriving. While he fondly remembers his foster siblings at the Leech household, Floyd relishes in making new friends in his new neighborhood. And as for his parents, once burdened with sorrow, they now find joy in showering Floyd with endless love and affection.
Though his happily-ever-after took some time to materialize, Leech finds solace in knowing that Floyd is finally living the life he had always longed for.
“He’s doing absolutely fantastic in his new home, and they are head-over-heels in love with him already,” Leech shared. “I think he is absolutely relishing being Marcia and Brad’s one-and-only, basking in all the love and attention he deserves.”
