A constable was on patrol when she spotted a red-haired fox carrying five or six full hot dogs in its mouth.

Canadian police recently shared a funny warning about a very unusual β€œhot dog thief” β€” and the suspect was impossible to miss.

A constable was patrolling in Blairmore, Alberta, when she spotted a red fox trotting through the area with five or six whole hot dogs stuffed in his mouth. The fox made no effort to hide the evidence and seemed determined to get away with his stolen snack.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Alberta posted a photo of the fox online, jokingly treating him like a bold criminal caught in the act. The post quickly spread across social media, where thousands of people joined in on the joke.

Many commenters rushed to defend the fox, insisting he looked innocent or deserved forgiveness because of how cute he was. Others joked that even though they were usually against crime, this particular case should probably be allowed.

Police, of course, did not arrest the animal or file any charges. Instead, they joked that the furry suspect had been released without conditions β€” and with a very full belly.

The department also created a playful fictional story about a barbecue theft, though no one knows exactly where the fox actually found the hot dogs.

Cpl. Mathew Howell said the post was meant to be lighthearted and give people something funny to smile about. The fox was seen about a week before Victoria Day, a Canadian holiday often celebrated with cookouts and barbecues, making his timing especially fitting.

The neighborhood where the fox was spotted is surrounded by woods, and after the constable took the photo, the fox disappeared back into the trees with his mouthful of food.

With barbecue and camping season beginning in Alberta, police suggested that other clever animals may also try their luck with picnic food. They ended their post by reminding people to enjoy BBQ season safely β€” and, perhaps, keep a closer eye on the hot dogs.
