Workers couldnโ€™t believe it.

Junkyard Workers Find Newborn Kittens in Wrecked Car

Earlier this month, workers at a junkyard in Massapequa, New York, made an unexpected discovery. While preparing a wrecked car for demolition, they popped the trunk and found five tiny surprisesโ€”a litter of newborn kittens, barely 2 weeks old.

A Swift Rescue

A worker carefully moved the kittens from the dirty trunk into a box, ensuring they were safe. News of the helpless babies quickly reached local animal rescuer John Debacker, who rushed to the scene.

By the time he arrived, the kittens were sound asleep. Knowing they needed immediate care, Debacker took them to Deb Oliver, an experienced foster carer who could bottle-feed them.

Searching for the Missing Mother

Debacker suspected the kittens’ mother was still in the junkyard. To find her, he set up traps and cameras, patiently waiting for a sign. Before long, he spotted her hidden among the tow yard’s scrap piles.

Catching her turned out to be easier than expected.

“We caught her fairly quick,” Debacker said.

A Heartwarming Reunion

Once safely in Oliverโ€™s care, the mother cat was reunited with her kittens. The tiny babies eagerly nursed, finally back in the warmth of their mother’s embrace.

For now, the cat family will remain in foster care. In about three months, the kittens will be ready for adoption, while experts will assess whether the mother cat is feral. If she is socialized, sheโ€™ll have a chance at finding a loving home. If not, she will be spayed and safely returned to her outdoor habitat.

A Happy Ending

Debacker is relieved that the little family has been given a new chance at life.

“It’s the best feeling when you have a happy ending,” he said.
