β€œThey were nervous” πŸ’”

Earlier this month in Harford County, Maryland, a resident heard something unexpected echoing from the woods behind her house β€” the soft, uncertain barks of puppies in distress.

The next morning, she spotted them: three tiny figures huddled together in the trees, too scared to come closer.

β€œThey were nervous,” said Keith Smithson of the Harford County Sheriff’s Office. Despite her efforts, the woman couldn’t coax the pups out β€” so she called in the experts.

An animal control officer arrived, but quickly realized it wasn’t a one-person job. With backup en route, the team devised a gentle plan. Treats in hand and patience in abundance, they slowly gained the pups’ trust. Eventually, hunger won out over fear, and the officers were able to secure the dogs safely.

β€œThey were sweet and not aggressive,” Smithson explained, β€œbut still not quite sure what to make of their rescuers.”

Once safely in hand, the pups were transported to the Humane Society of Harford County for veterinary care. Thankfully, they were healthy β€” just in need of some TLC.

Now, safe, warm, and no longer alone, the trio is on their way to a brighter future. They’ll remain at the shelter while they await forever homes, but one thing’s for sure: these pups will never be left to fend for themselves again.
