His hero ❤️

In the aftermath of Hurricanes Helene and Milton, countless untold stories of heroism have emerged — stories of people risking their lives to save both humans and animals. But perhaps the gratitude for all these efforts is best captured by a single glance from a thankful dog.

Florida’s Hillsborough County was among the hardest hit by Hurricane Milton, with vast areas left underwater. In response, crews from Hillsborough County Fire Rescue (HCFR) have been tirelessly navigating the flooded streets, searching for anyone — including pets — left behind.

One such rescue involved a dog saved by HCFR Captain Dusty Mascaro, who carried the pup to safety in his arms. After they were out of danger, Mascaro snapped a selfie with the dog, capturing an unmistakable expression of love and gratitude.

“This dog’s eyes say it all,” HCFR wrote in a post.

But this was far from an isolated rescue. According to HCFR, their teams have already saved 104 pets in the wake of Hurricane Milton, ensuring that no one — human or animal — is left behind. Every tail wagging and every soaked pet loaded onto rescue vehicles represents a life that these brave rescuers were determined to save.

“We’re incredibly grateful for the opportunity to serve and protect all members of our community, big and small,” HCFR added.

While many stories of courage and selflessness following the hurricanes may never be told, the gratitude for these ongoing efforts remains heartfelt and deeply appreciated.
