βI did not know how difficult she was going to be to catch.”
Rescuing Haseya: The Starbucks-Stealing Pup of the Grand Canyon
While filling up his car near the Grand Canyon, Zach Lacher noticed something unusualβa dog sprinting past with a Starbucks bag in her mouth. She looked thin and exhausted, clearly stealing food in a desperate attempt to survive.
Local authorities had been trying to rescue her for three months, but she was too skittish to let anyone get close.
A Determined Mission
Lacher felt an instant connection to the dog, later named Haseya, and decided to return later in the day to track her movements.

βI did not know how difficult she was going to be to catch,β he admitted.
For several days, Lacher watched as Haseya emerged from the canyon, learning her routine. On the fifth day, she didn’t appear, sparking concern that she might be stuck or injured.
A Clever Rescue Plan
Determined to find her, Lacher used a drone to scan the canyon.
βI was checking the nooks and crannies, and I saw her big puffy white tail,β he said. Surprisingly, Haseya began following the drone, leading her straight back to Lacherβas if she knew help had arrived.
Though still too wary to be caught by hand, she was soon lured into a humane trap. As soon as she was safe, her demeanor completely changed.
βShe just laid down and was at peace with it,β Lacher recalled.
A New Beginning
Haseya quickly adjusted to her new life, forming an instant bond with Lacherβs cat.
After months of scavenging for food and surviving alone, she finally had a home where she was safe and lovedβand sheβs never looking back. β€οΈ
