“We knew we had to get her help.”
Goldie’s Journey: From Fear to Hope
A Lonely Dog’s Desperate Wait
Alone in a small, underfunded shelter in South Carolina, a terrified dog named Goldie sat in her kennel, staring at the cinderblock walls, waiting for a miracle. Overcrowding meant that if she wasn’t adopted soon, she would be scheduled for euthanasia.

Goldie was so frightened that she withdrew into herself, barely looking at anyone.
A Rescue Mission Begins
A compassionate shelter volunteer couldn’t bear to see Goldie suffer. She reached out to Hounds In Pounds, a nonprofit dedicated to saving dogs in need, and sent them pictures and videos of Goldie trembling in her kennel.

“When we saw the video of her staring at the wall, shaking, we knew we had to get her help,” a representative from Hounds In Pounds told The Dodo.
A Second Chance
With the help of their rescue network, Hounds In Pounds connected the volunteer with a local veterinarian, who agreed to house Goldie and help her adjust. They also launched a fundraiser to cover her care and provide the resources she needed to heal.
Goldie soon had a warm bed, proper care, and love—things she had never truly known.
Learning to Love Again
Day by day, Goldie is making progress. Though still cautious, she has begun to trust people again. With help from a trainer, she even started walking around the clinic—something unimaginable just weeks before.

Her next step? Moving to a foster home in New Jersey, where she will search for a forever family.
A Brighter Future
Goldie’s story, once one of heartbreak, is now filled with hope and love.
“She has relaxed more,” the Hounds In Pounds representative said. “She knows she is safe now.”
