They weren’t expecting that.
Earlier this week, a Connecticut resident was enjoying the calm of a late-summer day when the serene atmosphere was suddenly disrupted.
Without any apparent cause, a chaotic uproar of shouts and screams erupted, causing quite a stir. It was an unexpected and puzzling scene. The βheβ at the center of this commotion turned out to be a rather plump bear.
While taking a leisurely stroll through the neighborhood, the bear accidentally stumbled upon Kristen Lee and her family, who were playing in their driveway. Although the bear seemed uninterested in disrupting their fun, his mere presence caused a considerable commotion.
As the family hurriedly retreated into their house in fright, the bear momentarily paused, seemingly intrigued by the fuss and wondering what all the excitement was about.
Given the unexpected appearance of the bear in their yard, itβs entirely understandable that the family reacted as they did. In fact, their response was exactly what experts recommend.
According to the Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protectionβs guide, “The Basics of Living with Black Bears,” the appropriate action when encountering a bear is clear: βIf you see a bear in your yard, do not approach it! Go into your house, garage, or other structure.β
So, the familyβs instinctive retreat was spot on. Check. Check.
