Earlier this week, Francielle Dias Rufino experienced an unexpected and delightful surprise at her home in Australia.
After returning home from work with her husband, Rufino discovered an unexpected visitor had made himself comfortable—a wild koala!
“I felt a mix of surprise, fear, excitement, and happiness all at once,” Rufino told The Dodo. She suspects the koala entered the house through her doggy door.
Having grown up in Brazil, a country without koalas, Rufino found the close encounter with the iconic Australian animal particularly extraordinary.
“It was such a unique experience,” she said.
In the end, Rufino’s husband gently guided the furry intruder back outside using their dog’s blanket.
“He’s safe now, back in the trees where he belongs,” Rufino said, adding with a laugh, “He’s probably thinking, ‘I can come back anytime’—and he’s very welcome to.”
