During a patrol in Northeast Houston, a small puppy clutching a soggy newspaper captured the attention of a Corridor Rescue volunteer.

The little tan dog strutted proudly down the street with his wet “toy,” despite his rough condition from life on the streets. The volunteer quickly filmed a video and scooped up the puppy, leaving the newspaper behind.

β€œThe newspaper was damp and had a strong odor,” said Page Moore, president of Corridor Rescue. β€œWe provided him with plenty of new toys to enjoy instead.”

A veterinary check-up revealed that the puppy, named Bingo, weighed only 11 pounds and had a belly full of parasites. β€œHe was suffering from sarcoptic mange and a secondary bacterial infection from scratching,” Moore explained. β€œHe was also dehydrated and tested positive for Parvo. Thankfully, it was a mild case and he recovered swiftly with treatment.”

When Bingo first arrived at the rescue, he was timid and frightened. But as his health improved, his playful personality emerged.

β€œHe transformed into a lively little guy!” Moore said. β€œFull of spirit and always eager for attention, Bingo became a vibrant and joyful puppy. He loved engaging with staff and volunteers and enjoyed all his new toys.”

In just the first month at the rescue, Bingo gained 8 pounds and grew healthier. Ready for adoption, he soon found a family, and within three months of arriving at the rescue, he had a new home.

β€œHis new mom saw his adoption listing and immediately applied,” Moore said. β€œShe fell in love with him, and on August 2, Chance left Texas to join his new family in Saint Paul, Minnesota, with three kids and his mom!”

Chance’s new family renamed him from Bingo to Chance. Grateful for his second chance, he’s now thriving as a family pet. β€œWe’re a hockey family,” Chance’s new mom shared in an update to the rescue. β€œWe had to introduce him to the game, and he loves chasing pucks around!”
