“She wanted to be noticed, she wanted help⦔ When Jeanean Gillespie arrived at the construction site earlier this month, she anticipated the usual quiet solitude of the desert landscape.
Her office, nestled in the midst of new housing developments, typically saw only her team of workers. So when she spotted two tiny eyes peering at her through the doorway that morning, she was taken aback. The small pup had seemingly appeared out of nowhere, desperate for attention.
“She wanted to be noticed, she wanted help,” wrote Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy 29, on Facebook. “Thankfully, my dear friend Jeanean Gillespie was there.”
Gillespie’s heart sank as she realized the vulnerable state of the little dog, later named Sage, left alone in the unforgiving desert. With bobcats and coyotes lurking nearby, Gillespie knew swift action was essential to save Sage.
Despite her best efforts, Sage eluded capture, darting away each time Gillespie approached. After several unsuccessful attempts, Gillespie enlisted Hall’s help and left food and water by the door for Sage in the meantime.
