Law enforcement successfully recovered a turtle that was clandestinely pilfered from a local pet emporium, concealed within the confines of a handbag.
A bold heist unfolded at Doolittles Pet and Aquatic Superstore on Bridgnorth Road in Shipley, where an audacious individual spirited away an unsuspecting turtle from its tank on a Wednesday.
Staffordshire Police detailed the daring act, revealing that the perpetrator reached into the tank with swift precision, securing the turtle within her bag before making a hasty escape in a parked car.
Undeterred, law enforcement swiftly identified the vehicle in question, initiating a pursuit that culminated in the recovery of the pilfered turtle just two days later.
In the aftermath, a 31-year-old woman, hailing from Wolverhampton, faced the consequences of her actions as she was issued with a community resolution order, marking the resolution of this unconventional reptilian caper.

PC Darren Wilkes remarked, “Our wildlife crime team acted swiftly, successfully locating and reuniting the turtle with its appreciative owners. Fortunately, the turtle is unharmed and is currently enjoying a peaceful respite under a comforting heat lamp.
“We remain steadfast in our commitment to supporting the rural community, extending proactive efforts to investigate crime and discourage offenders across Staffordshire. The safety and well-being of residents and businesses in the region remain paramount.”
