“He’s giving us a once-over!”
Last month, amidst the exhilarating descent down a snowy mountain trail, Kerwyn Jones and his companion experienced an unexpected moment of intrigue. Sensing an unseen presence, they turned to find themselves under the silent scrutiny of a hidden observer.
Suddenly, from the enveloping shroud of snow, emerged a petite figure, seamlessly blending into the wintry panorama.
“Take a look at that!” exclaimed Jones, his voice tinged with wonder.
To their mutual surprise, the creature seemed equally intrigued by their presence, its inquisitive gaze meeting theirs in a silent exchange of curiosity.
Jones and his friend were skiing on a snowy mountain trail when they thought they saw a little snow mouse. But upon closer inspection, it turned out to be a white mountain ermine, also known as a stoat. These weasels are native to North America and have a unique ability to change their brown fur to snowy white in the winter, making them blend in perfectly with their surroundings.
Jones mentioned that these creatures are rarely ever seen in the wild, highlighting the lucky encounter he and his friend had that day.
Even amidst the peacefulness of freshly fallen snow, Jones’ unexpected meeting shows there’s more happening than meets the eye. In winter, animals like ermines are experts at blending in. It’s a reminder that even in quiet moments, nature is full of surprises.
