The mama kept her babies safe โค๏ธ

Last month, a record-breaking snowstorm swept through Texas, bringing freezing temperatures and unexpected challenges. Amid the chaos, Mayra Luna, a dog trainer, received a Facebook message about a mama dog and her newborn puppies abandoned in a nearby park.

Fearing the worst, Luna rushed to the location, bracing herself for a heartbreaking sight. But when she arrived, she was met with an astonishing discoveryโ€”the puppies, just a few days old with their eyes still closed, were surprisingly healthy and well-fed, despite the bitter cold.

โ€œMy first reaction to seeing them was relief,โ€ Luna told The Dodo. โ€œI expected to find them in a frail state, but their mom had done an incredible job keeping them warm and nourished.โ€

The mama dog seemed to instinctively trust Luna, greeting her without hesitation.

โ€œNoticing her friendly demeanor, I opened the hatch door of my car, where I had a kennel, and asked her to jump in,โ€ Luna recalled. โ€œTo my surprise, she hopped right in with little hesitation.โ€

Carefully wrapping the puppies in a towel to keep them warm, Luna placed them in her car alongside their devoted mother and took them home to safety.

โ€œI told their mom I had her babies and that they were all safe now,โ€ Luna said. โ€œShe had done a fantastic job.โ€

Once home, Luna tended to their medical needs. The puppies had mild frostbite on their tiny toes, and their mother was passing plastic and foilโ€”evidence of her desperate attempts to find food while surviving in the park.

With proper care, the little family quickly began to recover. The mama dog gained weight and even discovered the joy of playing with toys, while her puppies hit exciting milestones each dayโ€”opening their eyes, responding to sounds, and wagging their tails when Luna or her sister entered the room.

โ€œWatching them grow has truly been a blessing,โ€ Luna said.

Fittingly, Luna named the resilient family the โ€œWinter Warriors,โ€ with each pup receiving a fiery name: Ember for the mother and Phoenix, Pyra, Kindle, Spark, and Cinder for her babies.

Soon, once the puppies are weaned, Ember and her little warriors will be available for adoption through Cypress Lucky Mutt Rescue. After enduring the cold, they all deserve warm and loving forever homes.
