A tranquil day at Brother Wolf Animal Rescue (BWAR) in Asheville, North Carolina, was abruptly disrupted when volunteers were startled by a sudden thud resonating at their front door. With bated breath, they observed in bewildered silence as an unfamiliar individual thrust their arm through the entrance, depositing a mysterious package into the lobby.
The cardboard container skidded across the floor, leaving the team momentarily stunned and grappling with the unexpected turn of events. Before they could fully comprehend the situation, the stranger hastily retreated, leaving behind a shroud of uncertainty.
“The individual flung open the door, hastily delivering the box into our space,” recounted Brooke Fornea, BWAR’s director of marketing. “It was a moment of sheer astonishment. We all stood motionless, initially unsure of how to react.”
Unfortunately, the team at BWAR has become accustomed to the sight of cardboard boxes left at their doorstep. However, the manner in which this particular box was hurled into the building was unprecedented, leaving everyone bewildered. What awaited inside was even more surprising.
“Given our past encounters, our initial assumption was that it might contain a litter of puppies or kittens,” explained Fornea. “So, discovering two adult cats was definitely unexpected.”
As the team carefully opened the box, two full-grown cats emerged, their expressions mirroring the bewilderment felt by those at BWAR.
“They seemed utterly bewildered,” recounted Fornea. “Their eyes darted around, searching for familiarity, trying to make sense of their sudden change in surroundings.”
Panting from the stress of their unexpected journey, the cats cautiously assessed their new environment, uncertain of what awaited them. Fortunately, the compassionate staff at BWAR were quick to offer reassurance and support.
After undergoing thorough check-ups confirming their good health, the cats—Theodore, the tuxedo, and Juniper, the calico—were settled into a kennel together, awaiting the arrival of their new foster parents.
Juniper and Theodore transitioned into foster care shortly after their arrival at BWAR, where they’ve remained ever since. In the week following their tumultuous rescue, the pair has gradually begun to settle in, growing more at ease with each passing day.
“They’re showing improvement,” shared Fornea. “Juniper is incredibly affectionate and thrives on attention! While Theodore remains reserved, he’s slowly opening up, finding comfort in the company of a few trusted companions and making strides in his recovery.”
Understanding the importance of allowing Juniper and Theodore time to adjust, the compassionate team at BWAR has opted to let them decompress in foster care before embarking on the search for their forever home.
Despite the distressing circumstances surrounding their arrival, Juniper and Theodore are blossoming in the nurturing environment provided by their foster caregivers. Witnessing their transformation brings immense joy to the hearts of the BWAR team, who eagerly anticipate the day when these resilient cats find a sense of belonging in a permanent loving home.
