Unexpected Visitor: Opossum Spotted Touring Greenville Humane Society
At the Greenville Humane Society in South Carolina, staff are accustomed to the daily greetings of wagging tails and purring cats. But this week, a very different kind of visitor made an unexpected appearance.

Somehow, while no one was looking, a wild opossum found its way onto the shelter groundsβand even made itself at home, briefly touring the facilities.
βSo, picture thisβitβs a totally normal day at the shelter. Dogs are barking, cats are judging us, everythingβs business as usual,β the shelter wrote. βThen one of our staff members walks by the kennels β¦ and stops dead in their tracks. Why? Because sitting proudly on top of a kennel, looking like he owned the place, was β¦ an opossum.β

Although the surprise guest startled the staff, the situation was handled quickly and safely.
βThe opossum was certainly unexpected, but luckily, weβve got some professional critter catchers on staff who didnβt mind scooping him up and returning him to the woods across the street!β a shelter spokesperson told The Dodo.
Interestingly, the shelter suspects this wasnβt the opossumβs first visit. βWeβve never caught an opossum actually in our kennels, but we have a feeling it wasnβt his first time stealing kibble since he looked so plump and healthy!β the spokesperson added.
What started as an ordinary day at the shelter turned into a memorable wildlife encounterβand a reminder that nature sometimes likes to drop in unannounced.
