“I couldn’t resist falling in love …”

After Loss, One Woman Finds Healing—and Double the Love—with Bonded Rescue Dogs

Last September, Rocía H. was scrolling through Instagram when something unexpected stopped her: a Story featuring a golden-furred dog with a radiant smile named Quesito, who was looking for a home. Still grieving the recent loss of her beloved dog, Whiskey, Rocía hadn’t been considering another pet—but Quesito sparked something.

“When I saw his face, I felt something so special inside of me,” she told The Dodo. “I fell in love with him in just a second.”

Though hesitant, Rocía found herself returning to the post again and again. Eventually, she decided to fill out the adoption form, assuming the odds were low due to the post’s popularity. But just hours later, she was contacted by Yarha, the head of Canhijos TJ, with unexpected news.

Not only had Rocía been selected for an interview, but she also learned that Quesito had a deeply bonded sibling, Limón, and the rescue hoped they could find a home together.

“It’s a really big responsibility,” Yarha acknowledged. “But I just felt like you needed to know.”

Despite the initial plan to adopt just one dog, Rocía looked at a photo of Limón and immediately felt the same emotional connection. The decision became clear.

“I told her [that if] I got approved for adoption, I wanted both, together,” she said.

Soon after, Rocía brought Quesito and Limón home, where her family—along with senior dog Cual and cat Horchata—welcomed the pair with open arms.

A Bond That Can’t Be Broken

Quesito and Limón adjusted quickly to their new life, never straying far from each other. While their personalities have developed in different ways, their emotional bond remains strong.

“No matter what they’re doing, they’re always arm-in-arm,” Rocía said.

Limón, in particular, is known for his gentle hugs. Rocía’s mom, a therapist, has even noticed Limón providing comfort to her patients.

“We always say he was given longer arms so he could hug,” Rocía shared. “He LOVES hugging.”

Becoming Support Dogs—and Family

Both dogs have embraced their new roles as emotional support companions, not just to Rocía and her family, but also to others. They’ve formed a joyful pack with Cual and Horchata, creating a warm, healing environment.

For Rocía, their arrival marked the beginning of emotional restoration.

“Quesito and Limón came into my life at a very unpredictable time,” she said. “But they showed me that love is possible again.”

In choosing to adopt not one but two dogs—at a time when her heart still ached—Rocía found herself beginning a new chapter. A chapter written with paws, hugs, and the unexpected joy that comes when you listen to your heart.
