β€œDespite nearly three years of waiting, she remains full of love and joy.”

When Deja arrived at Patty Baker Humane Society Naples in 2022, she was already on her second shelter journey. Previously, she had been at Gulf Coast Humane, where she didn’t find a forever home. Her new shelter friends were determined to change that.

At first, they thought finding Deja’s perfect match would be easy. Yet, years later, the senior pit bull is still waiting patiently.

β€œDespite nearly three years, she’s full of love and joy, always excited to meet new human friends,” said Patrizia Vila, events and outreach coordinator at the shelter, speaking to The Dodo.

Deja continues to be overlooked. Curled up in her kennel, she waits for someone to see her, and staff can’t understand why her charm hasn’t captured a heart yet.

β€œShe can be a little reserved at first,” said Stephanie Lewis, COO of the shelter, β€œbut once she trusts you, she’s goofy, energetic, and a total love bug. Her true personality really shines when she’s around people.”

Even as a senior dog, Deja has so much love to give. All she wants is a safe, comfortable home where she can spend her days with people who care for her.

β€œHer dream home would be with a loving family in a house with a yard,” Lewis said. β€œShe’d be a perfect companion β€” sometimes a TV-watching buddy, other times a wrestling partner. She’d thrive as the only dog so she can soak up all the attention and affection.”

Deja’s perfect match is out there. It’s taking time to find her, but when the right family comes along, every moment of waiting will be worth it.
