βDespite nearly three years of waiting, she remains full of love and joy.”
When Deja arrived at Patty Baker Humane Society Naples in 2022, she was already on her second shelter journey. Previously, she had been at Gulf Coast Humane, where she didnβt find a forever home. Her new shelter friends were determined to change that.
At first, they thought finding Dejaβs perfect match would be easy. Yet, years later, the senior pit bull is still waiting patiently.

βDespite nearly three years, sheβs full of love and joy, always excited to meet new human friends,β said Patrizia Vila, events and outreach coordinator at the shelter, speaking to The Dodo.
Deja continues to be overlooked. Curled up in her kennel, she waits for someone to see her, and staff canβt understand why her charm hasnβt captured a heart yet.
βShe can be a little reserved at first,β said Stephanie Lewis, COO of the shelter, βbut once she trusts you, sheβs goofy, energetic, and a total love bug. Her true personality really shines when sheβs around people.β
Even as a senior dog, Deja has so much love to give. All she wants is a safe, comfortable home where she can spend her days with people who care for her.

βHer dream home would be with a loving family in a house with a yard,β Lewis said. βSheβd be a perfect companion β sometimes a TV-watching buddy, other times a wrestling partner. Sheβd thrive as the only dog so she can soak up all the attention and affection.β

Dejaβs perfect match is out there. Itβs taking time to find her, but when the right family comes along, every moment of waiting will be worth it.
