“She is just a baby who wants love.”
Squirrel is an affectionate pup who craves nothing more than love and snuggles. Unfortunately, because she lives in a shelter, she doesn’t get the constant attention she deserves.
Once a part of a family, Squirrel was abandoned just before Hurricane Helene hit Florida. Mercy Full Project, a Tampa-based animal shelter, found her wandering outside and took her in before the storm arrived. “Consequently, she has severe abandonment issues,” the shelter shared on TikTok.
When Squirrel first arrived, she was incredibly scared and shaken. She’s still a puppy, and the only thing that comforts her is being held. Every time a shelter staff member walks by her kennel, Squirrel jumps up and down, eagerly demanding a hug. She’s so determined for affection that she even climbs the bars of her kennel to get closer to anyone passing by.
A TikTok video from Mercy Full Project shows Squirrel’s excitement when a worker finally gives in and picks her up. The moment she’s in the worker’s arms, Squirrel relaxes, a sign of the comfort and love she’s been longing for. One commenter on TikTok wrote, “She is just a baby who wants love.”
While the Mercy Full Project staff love giving Squirrel all the attention she needs, what she truly requires is a forever family who can provide her with the unconditional love and focus she craves.
Squirrel is available for adoption through the shelter’s website. “Adopt Squirrel if you want a clingy snuggle bug,” they wrote. Thankfully, many people have already submitted adoption applications for her, and soon, she’ll never have to climb kennel bars again to get a hug. “She’s so excited to find a home,” the shelter shared on TikTok.
