A Tale of Two Siblings: Dog Reunited With Long-Lost Littermate After Five Years Apart
Five years ago, Reddit user ReindeerTiny4401 adopted a unique and lovable puppy named Buddy — a mix of shar-pei, German shepherd, and rottweiler. From the moment they met, the two formed an unbreakable bond, becoming a tight-knit team that seemed destined to be together forever.
Then, one ordinary day, everything changed.
Scrolling through her Facebook feed, ReindeerTiny4401 came across a post that made her stop cold. It featured a dog on Dallas Animal Services’ euthanasia list — a scared-looking pup named Candy who was in desperate need of a home. Something about her face seemed incredibly familiar.

“A post just came up on my Facebook timeline,” she later wrote on Reddit. “[I] realized she looked like my dog and immediately inquired about her.”
After contacting the shelter, her instincts were confirmed: Candy was Buddy’s littermate, surrendered by her former family just weeks before.
Without hesitation, ReindeerTiny4401 raced to the shelter to adopt her. Candy was timid, heartworm positive, and had spent much of her life living outside. She ducked her head, refused to wag her tail, and seemed unsure of everything around her.

“She was so scared when I first picked her up,” her new mom recalled. “You could just tell how hard she’s had it.”
But the turning point came the moment Candy met Buddy again.
“They had a special bond instantly,” ReindeerTiny4401 wrote. As soon as the siblings were reunited, something clicked. Candy, who had been shut down and wary, began to open up.

Within days, she was wagging her tail, playing with Buddy, and discovering that life inside a loving home could be joyful and safe. Slowly but surely, Candy transformed.
“She now wags her tail, has so much confidence, loves to play with her brother, and she knows that going outside is a sanctuary, not her home,” her mom shared. “She’s the best dog ever.”

Now, months after their reunion, Buddy and Candy are inseparable. Despite spending five years apart, their bond is as strong as ever — and their mom couldn’t be happier.
“They’re best friends!” she wrote.
