“[Everyone] was in awe, watching Finn cross the stage!” Finn, a beloved goldendoodle, has faithfully accompanied his human, K Bryan, to high school every single day for the past two years. Last week, Finn received a special honor befitting his dedication and supportβhe joined the graduation ceremony and walked across the stage just like any other high school graduate.
Finn serves as a service dog for Bryan, significantly improving their high school experience since junior year began. Bryan credits Finn for providing invaluable assistance that ensured they could successfully graduate. “He helped me so much; I wouldnβt have made it through without him coming to school with me,” Bryan said.
When Bryan decided Finn should share the graduation stage, preparations included outfitting Finn in a custom red cap and gown to match Bryan’s own graduation attire. They wanted Finn to look the part, complete with a tiny tassel on his cap. To acclimate Finn to the ceremony’s atmosphere, Bryan started bringing him to school assemblies, where Finn learned to handle being in a crowd.
On the big day, Finn performed impeccably. He walked alongside Bryan as they both received recognition, Bryan for their diploma and Finn for his loyal companionship. “He did really well at graduation. He was perfect,” Bryan shared proudly.
Finn not only eased Bryan’s nerves during the overwhelming graduation ceremony but also became a beloved figure among their peers. “Everyone was amazed, seeing Finn graduate,” Bryan recalled with amusement. “One girl approached me afterward and asked, ‘Did your dog really graduate?’ And I proudly replied, ‘Yes, he went through high school with me.'”
Looking ahead, Bryan and Finn are set to embark on a new journey togetherβcollege. With Finn by their side, Bryan is confident in facing the challenges and adventures that college life will bring. “He’s been a constant source of support through many transitions in my life,” Bryan reflected. “I’m excited about the future and all that we’ll accomplish together.”
Finn’s graduation wasn’t just a ceremony; it was a testament to the profound bond between a human and their faithful service companion, marking a milestone celebrated by all who witnessed their remarkable journey together.
